My client is an established engineering manufacturing firm based in Leicester and commutable from Leicester, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Syston, Scraptoft and Queniborough. They are currently looking for a skilled Machinist to join their team.

The Role:

  • Skilled Machinist - Operating manual lathes and milling machines to fabricate and repair components for electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, and fans.
  • Performing mechanical fitting tasks, including assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of rotating equipment.
  • Collaborating with engineers to diagnose issues and determine repair strategies for various mechanical systems.
  • Ensuring precision and quality in machining tasks to meet specified tolerances and standards.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment.
  • Participating in training programs to develop skills in CNC machining, as the company provides training in this area.

Minimum Skills / Experience Required:

  • Proven Experience with Conventional Machines: Skilled in operating manual lathes and milling machines for precision machining tasks.
  • Mechanical Fitting Expertise: Experience in assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of rotating equipment such as motors, pumps, gearboxes, and fans.
  • Reading Technical Drawings: Ability to interpret engineering drawings to manufacture or repair components to specification.
  • Machining to Fine Tolerances: Experience with using measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Understanding of Materials: Familiarity with machining a range of materials, including steel, alloys, and other metals.
  • CNC Experience (Desirable but Not Essential): Some knowledge of CNC machining is beneficial, especially if they aim to transition into CNC roles (training provided).
  • Workshop Safety Practices: Knowledge of and adherence to health and safety standards in an engineering environment.

The Package:

  • Base Salary £16.50 per hour.
  • Day shifts 8am-5pm Mon-Fri 40 hour week.
  • Additional overtime and on-call work opportunities.
  • 31 days holiday including Bank Holidays.
  • Pension scheme.
