We are working with an established engineering business that is looking for a CNC Programming & Production Planner to join their Group Prep department. This is a key role responsible for managing steel section and plate stock, CNC programming, material nesting and production planning, ensuring materials and prep work are efficiently scheduled and available to support production.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing steel sections and plate stock through StruMIS, producing CNC nesting programmes and coordinating prep activities across the Group. Working closely with Production Managers, Production Planning and Materials Handling teams, you will ensure that production requirements are met efficiently, safely and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage steel section and plate stock through StruMIS
- Maintain accurate StruMIS data in line with project programmes and shop-floor progress
- Program steel section nesting using StruMIS and plate nesting using SigmaNEST
- Issue CNC programmes to the Prep Department and track materials through the inventory system
- Select the most suitable machine for each task and maximise machine efficiency
- Read and interpret technical drawings to identify machining requirements
- Plan and schedule CNC machine workloads to ensure daily production requirements are achieved
- Manage material traceability through the relevant systems
- Plan all prep work across the Group
- Allocate prep resources according to skill set and workload
- Work to prep dates set by the Production Planner
- Liaise with Materials Handlers to manage and track inventory
- Work closely with the ASL and ASSL Production Managers to ensure prep targets are achieved
- Promote strong Health & Safety practices and lead by example within your area
- Ensure all work complies with quality policies, specifications and relevant procedures
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of CNC programming, production planning and manufacturing processes, ideally within steel fabrication or a similar engineering environment. You will ideally have:
- Experience using StruMIS or a similar manufacturing management system
- Experience with SigmaNEST or similar CNC nesting software
- Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- The ability to read and interpret detailed technical drawings
- Strong planning, scheduling and organisational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and an analytical, methodical approach
- The ability to prioritise workloads and react quickly to changing production requirements
- A proactive approach to problem solving
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
