Are you a skilled Manual Machinist with experience on XYZ or Turning machines? If yes, read on.... My client is an established engineering manufacturing firm based in Cheddar and commutable from Cheddar, Draycott, Axbridge, Wedmore, Badgworth and Winscombe. They are currently looking for a skilled Manual Machinist to join their team.
The Role:
- Operating manual XYZ lathes to fabricate and repair components for electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, and fans
- Collaborating with engineers to diagnose issues and determine repair strategies for various mechanical systems
- Ensuring precision and quality in machining tasks to meet specified tolerances and standards
- Adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment
- Participating in training programs to develop skills in CNC machining, as the company provides training in this area
Minimum Skills / Experience Required:
- Proven Experience with Conventional Machines: Skilled in operating manual lathes and milling machines for precision machining tasks
- XYZ Turning experience
- Experience in using manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc)
- Experience with welding and balancing would be beneficial
- Reading Technical Drawings: Ability to interpret engineering drawings to manufacture or repair components to specification
- Machining to Fine Tolerances
- Experience with using measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, callipers) to ensure accuracy and quality
- Understanding of Materials: Familiarity with machining a range of materials, including steel, alloys, and other metals
- CNC Experience (Desirable but Not Essential): Some knowledge of CNC machining is beneficial, especially if they aim to transition into CNC roles (training provided)
- Workshop Safety Practices: Knowledge of and adherence to health and safety standards in an engineering environment
The Package:
- Base Salary Β£15 per hour (negotiable depending on experience)
- Day shifts 8am-5pm Mon-Fri 40-hour week
- Additional on-call bonuses and enhanced overtime rates
