Based in the south-west of England in Dorchester, Precision Acoustics is a Coda Octopus Group Company. The Company was established in its present form in 1997 and is well established as a major supplier of ultrasonic transducers, hydrophones, acoustic materials and metrology products for the MHz ultrasound markets on a worldwide basis.

The role:

As a Sensors Project Engineer, you will join our Sensors & Materials team, designing, building and testing bespoke ultrasound solutions for customers around the world.

Your work will enhance the Sensors team capability for developing technologies used in applications including medical ultrasound, non-destructive testing, underwater sensing and scientific research.

Working as part of a small, collaborative team, you will have a real impact on the team's output and be involved throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial customer enquiry through design, manufacture and delivery.

A prior knowledge of ultrasound transducers and acoustics is highly desirable, however the successful candidate will receive comprehensive training and support to develop the specialist knowledge and practical skills needed to progress in the role.

Scope:

Accountable to the Sensors Manager, the Sensors Project Engineer will be responsible for leading custom sensor projects and new product development as a key technical authority within the sensors team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Driving product development as a key technical authority in the sensors team.
• Securing key customer accounts for the sensors team.
• Ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of customer-facing sensors projects.

Responsibilities:

• Sensor manufacture and support for new product development.
• Supporting internal teams including the Research, Production and Calibration teams within the business.
• Assist with proposals for new sales including authorship of project proposals.
• Communication with external contacts including customers and suppliers in addition to internal teams within the business.
• Design and development of assembly processes.
• Record keeping and procedure documentation.
• ISO; working to all ISO processes and supporting the business in upholding ISO standards.
• H&S; working to health & safety standards.
• Supporting and working towards the Company’s vision and values.
• Training and mentorship of staff.

Experience

• Previous experience within industry or academia, ideally with a focus on transducer design or construction methods.
• Use of acoustic measurement equipment, eg: Oscilloscope, hydrophones, ultrasound transducers.
• Electrical and acoustic testing of ultrasound sensors.
• Use of workshop facilities
• Knowledge of the operation and manufacture of piezo-electric devices.
• An understanding of or interest in electronics.
• Ability to understand and create technical drawings, preferably through CAD.
