We are looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Bookkeeper to join our team in London. This is a full-time, on-site position responsible for ensuring all financial transactions are received, processed, and reconciled efficiently and transparently each month, in accordance with the company's financial procedures and processes. The successful candidate will also support our Consultant and Internal and External Accountants with administrative duties in completing year-end accounts and tax returns.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Take accounts to Trial Balance
  • Support management with reports, including P&L, cash flow statements, budgets, and service charges
  • Ensure budgets align with actual expenditure
  • Assist external and internal accountants with administrative duties to complete year-end accounts
  • Prepare and file VAT returns
  • Support with personal tax returns for clients
  • Process small company payroll and facilitate payments (in-house training available)
  • Process payments for company payment runs
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, deposit accounts, nominal codes, suspense account, inter-company account, and petty cash transactions
  • Reconcile and track new and existing project codes and service charge transactions to ensure all income and expenditure are correctly allocated
  • Post purchase invoices, request approval, and file copies in the accounting system and/or Google Drive
  • Set up new customer and supplier accounts and issue monthly sales invoices
  • Reconcile event codes, issue credit notes to refund hire deposits, and provide updates to the events team
  • Manage credit control by chasing debtors, creating payment plans, and producing aged debtors' reports
  • Respond to enquiries from clients, staff, HMRC, and suppliers via phone and email
  • Prepare, present, and participate in away days with clients and company meetings
  • Complete ad hoc duties as required
  • Build relationships with new, existing, and potential clients and identify new market opportunities through marketing activity
  • Ensure all duties are conducted in accordance with HMRC and Companies House policies to maintain full compliance

Person specification

  • Bookkeeping or accounting qualification
  • One to two years' experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to recommend alternatives
  • Approachable team player able to collaborate with clients and staff at all levels
  • Adaptive learner with a commitment to professional development
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work on own initiative
  • Strong written and oral communication skills across all levels, including senior management and external partners
  • Ability to present reports and provide clear recommendations
