The role is primarily based from the Nelson office and will involve providing confidential counselling services under established workplace contracts. This will include one-to-one counselling and, where appropriate, group or couples counselling, along with professional supervision services. Some travel to Marlborough and the West Coast will be required from time to time.
Key responsibilities
Provide professional, confidential and evidence-informed counselling to individuals referred through Precious People Occupational Health Service.
Provide group and/or couples counselling where this is appropriate and within the counsellor's scope of practice and experience.
Provide professional supervision where required and where the applicant holds the appropriate experience and competence to do so.
Undertake initial assessment of client needs, identify appropriate goals and provide counselling within agreed service parameters.
Recognise situations requiring referral to another health professional or specialist service and make appropriate recommendations in consultation with the client.
Maintain clear professional boundaries and work in accordance with relevant ethical, professional and legal requirements.
Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical notes and records in accordance with Precious People policies and relevant privacy requirements.
Communicate professionally with Precious People staff and, where appropriate and authorised, with referring organisations while maintaining client confidentiality.
Manage your own appointments, workload and follow-up requirements in conjunction with the Nelson administration team.
Be available for occasional travel to Marlborough and the West Coast as service requirements arise.
About you
A recognised qualification in counselling, social work or another relevant discipline that supports professional counselling practice.
Relevant counselling experience, preferably including experience working with adults and workplace-related issues.
Current professional registration or membership with an appropriate professional body where applicable to the applicant's qualification and scope of practice.
Experience providing professional supervision would be an advantage.
Confidence working independently while also contributing positively to a small multidisciplinary health team.
Strong communication, interpersonal, assessment and record-keeping skills.
A sound understanding of confidentiality, privacy, informed consent and professional boundaries.
A clean, current New Zealand driver licence is essential due to occasional travel requirements.
Have a current police check and hold a valid one throughout employment
