Role Summary

The Commercial Gas Engineer at PREAH Building Services plays a key role in delivering high-quality planned and reactive maintenance services across multiple commercial sites. Operating within our Facilities Management Division and under the direction of the FM Supervisor, this mobile role involves travel between client locations throughout the day to carry out essential gas system maintenance and repairs. The engineer ensures all work complies with current legislation, client specifications, and safety standards while representing the company\’s commitment to reliability and professionalism.

Core Responsibilities

  • Install commercial gas appliances, pipework, and associated systems as per design and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct routine and reactive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial gas systems and boilers.
  • Ensure gas systems are properly tested, commissioned, and certified before handover.

Electrical & Control Systems

  • Carry out fault finding and basic electrical diagnostics.
  • Work with control panels and building management systems (BMS) where applicable.

Safety & Compliance

  • Work in line with Gas Safe regulations, relevant British Standards, and site-specific risk assessments.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.
  • Ability to work at height using MEWPs and boom lifts.
  • Immediately report any unsafe practices or incidents.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately complete gas safety certificates, job sheets, and commissioning reports.
  • Maintain logs of all work undertaken, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Provide timely updates to supervisors regarding progress, issues, or changes on-site.
  • Coordinate effectively with other engineers and trades on-site to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Support apprentices and junior engineers in developing their skills and understanding of industry standards.
  • Communicate clearly with site teams and contractors to resolve on-site technical challenges.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualified Commercial Gas Engineer with valid ACS qualifications, i.e.: COCN1, ICPN1, TPCP1A/B, CORT1, CIGA1, CDGA1.
  • Current Gas Safe registration.
  • Strong understanding of fault finding, control panels, and electrical systems; 18th Edition certification preferred.
  • Experience in facilities management, including service, maintenance, reactive repairs, and emergency call-outs.
  • Comfortable working at height; IPAF and/or PASMA certifications desirable.
  • LPG, oil, and catering gas qualifications are desirable but not essential.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and out-of-hours shifts to meet business demands.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, mobile role based across various commercial client sites. The engineer will travel between multiple locations daily, performing planned preventive maintenance (PPMs) and attending reactive repair callouts. Work will include out-of-hours support via a rota system and requires flexibility to respond to urgent issues as they arise.
