Training Designer – British Army
Location: Warminster, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. Mode: Hybrid.
Responsibilities
- Deliver collective training event design as part of a small team.
- Accountable for all training events assigned and their transformation.
- Produce Collective Training Exercise Plans and Assessment Solutions.
- Ensure processes supporting the review, change, and delivery of training events follow the end‑to‑end training design process, are DSAT compliant, and meet quality standards.
- Proactively address, resolve and, when necessary, accelerate challenges that may delay delivery.
- Collaborate with Army stakeholders to align training design with the operational environment, threat pacing and current British Army Doctrine.
- Update training design materials incorporating recommendations and feedback from internal and external assurance to keep training up‑to‑date.
- Ensure governance, risk management and compliance standards are met throughout the transformation lifecycle.
- Contribute to a cross‑functional team fostering innovation, agility and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and report progress, risks and outcomes to Training Design leadership.
- Deputise for the Training Design Lead when required.
- Execute any additional duties to develop and support the Training Design Service.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience designing Collective Training Exercises for the British Army across Live, Virtual and Constructive environments.
- Knowledge of British Army training design from Sub‑Unit to Corps.
- Strong background in JSP 822 and the DSAT process.
- Deep understanding of management methodologies and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence at all organisational levels.
- Experience in programme governance, risk management and benefits realisation.
- Excellent communication, leadership and critical‑thinking skills.
- Attention to detail, passion for quality, and ability to plan and multitask.
- Adaptable approach to evolving priorities.
- Experience working within or with public sector or defence‑related programmes.
- Team‑player attitude capable of integrating across Army and industry partners.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience with training and capability development programmes.
- Familiarity with data‑driven decision‑making and digital transformation tools.
- Knowledge and practical experience of UK Ministry of Defence procedures and policies.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and third‑party delivery partners.
