Principal Platform Engineer
Location: Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom. Employment type: Permanent, full time. Hybrid (min 3 days a week).
Security clearances required: SC and eDV clearance.
About the role: Work as a Principal Platform Engineer, deploying applications and software to cloud or on‑premises environments for various business areas in a mature, agile environment. The team works synchronously with customers to solve digital challenges.
Responsibilities
- Deploy applications and software to cloud or on‑premises environments.
- Build and set up development tools and infrastructure.
- Understand the needs of project stakeholders.
- Automate and improve development and release processes.
- Ensure systems are safe and secure against cyber security threats.
- Identify technical problems and develop software updates and solutions.
- Work with other engineers to ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended.
Required Experience
- Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM/DevOps delivery model.
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS or Azure).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
- Experience building and deploying large‑scale applications in Continuous Integration/Delivery pipelines; container platform and orchestration systems (ECS, AKS, Kubernetes/helm/Docker).
- Experience with automation and integration tools such as Jenkins, Concourse CI, or cloud equivalents.
- Experience with scripting languages and source control.
