We are working with a well-established and growing professional services business in York to recruit an Assistant Accountant into their expanding finance team. This is a broad, hands-on opportunity offering exposure across management accounting, reporting and payroll, with strong support for ongoing study and career progression. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their technical skillset in a collaborative environment where ideas are encouraged, and continuous improvement is part of the culture. You will work closely with the Finance Manager, taking ownership across key finance processes while building into a well-rounded finance professional.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting month-end close, journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparing financial reports and performance analysis
- Completing income and WIP reconciliations
- Processing payroll, handling reconciliations and employee queries
- Supporting audit and compliance requirements
- Mentoring and supporting a finance apprentice
- Identifying and delivering process and systems improvements
About you
- Previous experience across payroll and transactional accounting
- Currently studying AAT
- Strong Excel capability including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP and SUMIF
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Confident, proactive and comfortable taking responsibility
