Are you an ambitious Qualified Accountant looking for the next step in your career? A highly acquisitive and growing business in Hull has a newly created role for a Financial Controller. This is a number-one-in-finance role within the business - a position that combines strategic influence with day-to-day ownership of the finance department. The successful candidate will report to the Group FD, but will also sit on the divisional board working closely with the divisional MD to drive performance, strengthen financial control, and shape the future of the finance team and reporting structure.

Act as the lead finance business partner for the division, providing challenge, insight, and support to the Divisional MD and senior leadership team.
Responsibilities:- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, initially taking a more hands-on role before delegating as the team grows.
- Take ownership of the division’s full financial cycle, from month-end reporting and board packs through to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision support.
- Deliver accurate, timely, and insightful management accounts each month, with clear commentary and recommendations.
- Prepare monthly board packs, ensuring key financial and operational metrics are presented in a way that drives action.
- Prepare the annual budgeting and rolling forecasting processes for the division.
- Strengthen and formalise financial controls, processes, and reporting standards across the division.
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with post-qualification experience in a management or financial control role.
- Proven ability to produce and present high-quality management information and board packs.
- Strong understanding of FRS 102 / UK GAAP, VAT, and core financial controls.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with accounting or modern ERP systems.
- A self-starter with a continuous-improvement mindset and the confidence to challenge and influence at all levels.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to translate financial data into meaningful insight for non-financial colleagues.
