We have a new opportunity within our PMO department, part of our Engineering function, for an exceptional Project Manager to join our thriving team to provide maternity leave cover on a fixed term contract of up to 12 months. We are looking to speak with passionate Project Managers who can collaborate cross‑functionally in a highly effective manner to define, plan and deliver to the agreed goals of each program or project. Supporting both internal and external clients, you will have responsibility for supporting the business in all project management activities, playing a key role within the team that is driving the strategic future of the company at a global level. This position is based at our vibrant Cambridge office; please note, we are not able to offer Visa sponsorship or relocation support for this role.
Key tasks
- Full program or project lifecycle ownership: successful delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for one major or several minor initiatives simultaneously.
- Manage all aspects of multiple related activities to ensure the overall project is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives.
- Partner with Technical Lead and Domain Leads to prepare detailed project plan for all phases of the project.
- Manage the day‑to‑day programme activities and resources, and chair the Programme Management team meetings.
- Set and continually manage project expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders.
- Manage project scope and changes.
- Report on project success criteria results, metric, test and deployment management activities.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT & DELIVERY
- Partner with Technical Lead and as a team lead end‑to‑end delivery of technical projects, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and business outcomes are met.
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in partnership with technical and business stakeholders.
- Partner with Technical Lead and Domain Leads to develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
- Manage project budgets, risks, dependencies, and change requests.
TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
- Translate complex technical requirements into clear project objectives and actionable plans.
- Work closely with engineering teams to understand system architecture, technical constraints, and implementation considerations.
- Support design and solution discussions to drive project clarity and feasibility.
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and issues.
- Facilitate communication between cross‑functional teams including engineering, product, operations, and leadership.
- Prepare and present project updates, reports, and dashboards.
PROCESS & GOVERNANCE
- Champion best‑practice delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Success Based Scheduling) depending on the project.
- Promote continuous improvement across project processes, documentation, and communication.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
RISK MANAGEMENT
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage project risks (threats and opportunities), developing and maintaining a comprehensive risk register.
- Implement appropriate mitigation and contingency plans, monitor emerging issues, and elevate critical risks to stakeholders as needed to ensure project delivery remains on track.
Qualifications and training
- Candidates will ideally have PMP, APM PFQ and/or PMQ or Prince 2 Practitioner qualifications (or will possess equivalent experience).
- Experience of Project Management tools (e.g. MS Project, Prochain) would be beneficial but not essential.
Skills and experience
- Strong analytical capabilities, highly organised with excellent relationship management skills.
- Project management and planning experience.
- Experience in a similar role, with experience directly interacting with customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and deliver update reports.
