Primary Objective:
To lead the inspection, assessment, design and remediation of bridge and infrastructure assets including report writing & client handover. To provide project management & technical leadership across projects and act as a key interface between clients, contractors and stakeholders.
Work Environment:
A hybrid role combining office-based engineering, site inspections, client meetings and project delivery activities.
Location:
Project-based work across the UK, with a significant focus on the Severn Bridges and major infrastructure projects.
Working Hours:
48 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Lead structural inspections, assessments and investigations of bridge and infrastructure assets including client reporting.
β’ Plan and deliver Post-Tensioning Special Inspections (PTSI).
β’ Review inspection findings and determine defect severity, causes and remediation requirements.
β’ Provide technical leadership to inspection teams and junior engineers.
β’ Undertake structural assessments in accordance with DMRB, Eurocodes and client requirements.
β’ Develop repair, strengthening and remediation solutions including heavy lifting & jacking.
β’ Manage multiple projects simultaneously including programme, budget and resource allocation.
β’ Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project procedures.
β’ Act as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors and asset owners.
β’ Mentor graduate and junior engineers and support chartership development.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
β’ BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
β’ Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred or actively working towards chartership.
Experience:
β’ Minimum 5 years' experience in bridge, civil or structural engineering.
β’ Experience undertaking structural inspections and assessments.
β’ Experience producing technical reports and engineering calculations.
β’ Experience working on UK infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills:
β’ Strong understanding of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Eurocodes and relevant British Standards.
β’ Competent in structural analysis software.
β’ Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
β’ Strong technical report writing skills.
Certification:
β’ Full UK Driving Licence.
β’ CSCS Card.
β’ BICS qualification desirable.
Personal Attributes:
β’ Strong leadership and communication skills.
β’ Commercial awareness and project management capability.
β’ Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Typical Compensation
Salary: Β£50,000 β Β£70,000+ per annum depending upon experience, chartered status and responsibilities.
