Job Description: Data Modelling Specialist
About the Role
The Data Modelling Specialist is responsible for designing fit-for-purpose conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with business requirements. These models serve analytical, business intelligence, and operational use cases, primarily within the data platform.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
• Collaborate in the development of a Data Modelling Centre of Excellence.
• Contribute to the definition, dissemination, and execution of the Data Modelling Framework and architecture.
• Provide support and guidance on best practices for federated modelling teams in high-pressure environments.
• Offer ad hoc deep-dive support to remove modelling bottlenecks and accelerate team delivery.
• Support various data modelling activities (e.g., CDM, LBM, PDM) and integrate metadata.
• Assist in achieving Data Enablement Services goals and activities.
• Establish close collaboration with architecture and engineering functions.
• Ensure alignment with Enterprise Data Model targets/common standards and drive clarity on Business Domains/Data Domains definitions and agreements.
• Lead modelling pipeline code QA/recommendations and define a common function library for pipelines (e.g., MOL calculations).
• Coordinate with product, programme, and squad leads to ensure adherence to strict methods, meet stage gates, and report on DM activities at the programme level.
Specialist Skills & Experience
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Solid understanding of databases, platforms, and technologies.
• Experience with analytics tools and data-driven decision-making.
• Familiarity with Agile frameworks and methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into data models.
• Understanding of data modelling principles, processes, and policies, with experience using key data modelling tools.
• Proven ability to engage with both Business and IT stakeholders to document business outcomes and objectives.
• Ability to support data management goals and establish collaboration with architecture and engineering functions.
Technical Skills
• Expertise in entity relationship, dimensional, and NOSQL modelling using IE or other common notations.
• Proficiency in SQL, DDL, DML, and Pyspark scripting.
• Experience with tools such as ERWIN and Visio/UML for data modelling.
• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, and Databricks is desirable.
