I'm supporting a healthcare provider looking for an experienced Interim Service Manager to lead and stabilise a busy custody healthcare service.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role within a large custody suite, requiring someone who can provide visible leadership, strengthen relationships with key partners and ensure consistently high standards of healthcare delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing clear, visible leadership to the healthcare team and setting expectations around service delivery.
  • Building strong working relationships with police partners and custody staff.
  • Improving compliance with clinical assessment response times, targeting over 95% within 60 minutes.
  • Ensuring full rota coverage and managing short-notice staffing challenges.
  • Overseeing healthcare assessments and referral documentation for detained young people.
  • Maintaining strong clinical governance, medication checks, audits and mandatory training compliance.
  • Supporting clinical leads and the wider healthcare team to improve performance and accountability.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven operational management experience within custody healthcare, prison healthcare or a comparable custodial environment.
  • A confident, resilient leader who can manage challenging situations and provide clear direction.
  • Experience improving service performance, workforce resilience and operational standards.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with clinical teams and external stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to undergo the necessary security vetting.

Working pattern:

Full-time on site during the first month, with the potential for one day working from home per week thereafter, subject to agreement.

This is an opportunity for an experienced interim leader to make a tangible difference to service performance, team culture and partnership working in a demanding healthcare environment.
