A well-established UK business is seeking an Interim Payroll Specialist to step in urgently and act as the sole internal payroll expert during a critical payroll systems transition. The organisation is moving from ADP to Workday Payroll, with go-live scheduled for April (start of the new tax year). There is an immediate need for an experienced payroll professional who can ensure business continuity, data accuracy, and compliance throughout the transition and beyond.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role, ideal for a payroll specialist who has supported a Workday Payroll implementation and enjoys being the calm, knowledgeable pair of hands in a high-impact change environment.

Key Focus Areas
  • Run UK payroll in ADP for March
  • Act as the internal payroll expert during the transition from ADP to Workday
  • Support data migration, validation, and cleansing ahead of go-live
  • Participate in testing and parallel runs for Workday Payroll
  • Own post-go-live payroll activity in Workday, including payslip and report validation
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies, defects, and change requests
  • Manage payroll complexity including: Commission-based employees, Overtime and clocking-in data, SSP, maternity pay, pensions, and company sick pay rules
  • Provide confidence and assurance to HR and Finance stakeholders during go-live
  • Maintain confidentiality and best practice in payroll data handling
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven UK payroll experience, running payroll end-to-end
  • Workday Payroll experience is non-negotiable (implementation, testing, and/or go-live support)
  • Hands-on ADP payroll experience (required for March payroll)
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation (SSP, maternity, pensions, RTI, etc.)
  • Comfortable taking full ownership of payroll delivery
  • Able to spot issues instinctively and challenge data that “doesn’t look right”
  • Happy in a non-managerial, operational role
  • Calm, reliable, and confident under pressure
  • Open to candidates at Payroll Administrator / Specialist / Analyst level, provided they can demonstrate experience and ownership
The Details
  • Rate: £20–£30 per hour (inside IR35, PAYE or umbrella)
  • Working Pattern: 3 days per week
  • Location: Hybrid – 1 day per week onsite in Hayes, Uxbridge.
  • Contract Length: Until June (with strong likelihood of extension)
  • Start Date: ASAP (immediate availability)
  • Interview Process: One-stage interview via Teams
  • Reporting Line: HR Manager
