Head of Building Safety (In-Occupation)
London | Hybrid Working (typically 1-2 days per week in the office).
Contract: Permanent, full-time.
This is an opportunity to make a real impact in one of the built environment's most important and fast-evolving areas.
We’re partnering with a growing, multi-disciplinary technical advisory consultancy looking for an ambitious Head of Building Safety (In-Occupation) to take the lead on a key service line, drive its growth and help shape the next chapter of its success.
Combining technical expertise, commercial ownership and people leadership, this role offers the chance to do far more than oversee projects. You’ll have the platform to influence strategy, develop new client propositions, build a high-performing team and play a leading role in helping the industry navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
If you’re ready to turn your expertise into something bigger, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Build and shape a growing service line: Take ownership of the in-occupation building safety offering, influence its strategic direction and identify exciting opportunities for growth.
- Make your mark on the industry: Become a senior technical authority, helping clients navigate the Building Safety Act 2022 and raise standards across the built environment.
- Combine technical and commercial leadership: Win new business, develop client relationships, shape proposals and drive sustainable revenue growth.
- Develop and inspire a team: Lead, mentor and grow a team of consultants, fostering technical excellence and professional development.
- Broaden your impact: Collaborate with specialists across fire safety, design, construction and technical advisory, contributing to a diverse range of projects.
- Embrace innovation: Explore AI and digital technology to improve compliance, streamline document reviews and strengthen golden thread management.
The Role
As Head of Building Safety, you’ll take the lead in developing and expanding the consultancy’s in-occupation building safety service, becoming a trusted adviser to clients responsible for occupied higher-risk buildings.
You’ll help clients understand and fulfil their regulatory obligations, providing expert guidance on safety case reports, Building Assessment Certificates, remediation oversight and ongoing building safety responsibilities.
Alongside your technical remit, you’ll have the autonomy to shape the service’s future, identify emerging market needs and turn regulatory developments into new commercial opportunities.
You’ll also work closely with colleagues across Building Regulations Principal Designer and design and construction services, helping deliver an integrated, forward-thinking offering to clients.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical credibility, strategic thinking and commercial ambition, and who wants to see the tangible results of their leadership.
You will need to bring:
- Excellent knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations, Approved Document B and relevant fire safety legislation.
- Significant UK experience across building safety and fire safety, with a strong track record in a senior or leadership position.
- Consultancy experience, including client advisory, fee-earning team management and commercial delivery.
- Hands-on experience with occupied buildings, including safety cases, Accountable Person responsibilities and remediation oversight.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing technical professionals.
- A strong network across the London property and construction market, including developers, real estate funds, contractors and building control bodies.
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional body, such as IFE, RICS, CIOB, CABE or RIBA.
- Working knowledge of the Building Regulations Principal Designer role and the ability to collaborate across building safety advisory and design and construction projects.
The Bigger Picture
The building safety landscape continues to evolve, creating significant opportunities for consultancies that can offer clients the right expertise, insight and support.
This role puts you at the heart of that opportunity. You’ll have the scope to influence how services are delivered, develop new capabilities, strengthen market relationships and build a team ready for what comes next.
Interested in taking the next step?
If you’re ready to bring your expertise, ideas and leadership to an opportunity with real scope for growth, we’d love to hear from you.
