Interim Capital Project Manager - Healthcare Construction
6 Month Contract - Outside IR35 - £400 a day
3-5 days per week
Location: South East London
Hybrid working with regular site visits - typically one day per week, increasing as construction progresses.
This is an opportunity to make an immediate impact on a business investing heavily in the expansion of its specialist healthcare estate.
The Opportunity:
You'll take ownership of a significant healthcare capital project currently progressing through the latter stages of design and into construction. Working client side, you'll become the key interface between senior leadership and external delivery partners, ensuring the programme is driven forward at pace. This isn't a role for someone who simply reports progress; you'll be expected to influence decisions, remove blockers, challenge where necessary and keep momentum across multiple workstreams. Alongside the flagship project, there is scope to support additional healthcare developments as the wider estate programme continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery of a multi-million-pound healthcare construction programme from design through to completion.
- Drive programme recovery and acceleration to achieve ambitious operational deadlines.
- Coordinate architects, contractors, consultants and specialist suppliers.
- Hold external delivery partners accountable for programme, quality and commercial performance.
- Manage design coordination, ensuring decisions are made and unnecessary redesign is avoided.
- Monitor risks, critical path activities and project governance.
- Build strong relationships across operational, clinical and executive stakeholders.
- Provide clear reporting and project updates to senior leadership.
About You
You MUST have:
- 3-5+ years' experience delivering healthcare capital construction projects.
- Strong client side project management experience.
- Experience delivering refurbishment, fit out or complex healthcare environments.
- Knowledge of the full project lifecycle, particularly RIBA Stages 1-4 and transition into construction.
- Experience managing programme, risk, procurement and commercial issues.
- The confidence to challenge constructively while building trusted relationships.
- A recognised Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent).
The Person:
Success in this role will come from your ability to balance diplomacy with decisive leadership. Calm under pressure, commercially aware, highly organised, adaptable within changing environments, comfortable working with senior executives, naturally collaborative, yet confident enough to challenge when required.
