A confidential opportunity is available for an experienced Interim Operational Improvement Consultant to support a high-profile NHS improvement programme within acute and outpatient services.

This role is suited to seasoned Acute healthcare professionals who are comfortable working at pace, delivering hands‐on improvement, and operating effectively within complex, pressured environments.

The Assignment

  • You will act as a frontline operational improvement specialist, working shoulder‐to‐shoulder with clinical and non‐clinical teams to identify issues, test solutions, and embed sustainable improvements.
  • The consultancy operates a structured but highly practical delivery model, combining on‐site presence with senior oversight to ensure pace, quality, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands‐on operational improvement within acute and outpatient services
  • Provide regular progress updates, risk escalation, and delivery insight
  • Contribute to structured governance through weekly planning and review cycles
  • Ensure improvement activity and outputs are clearly evidenced
  • Support in‐depth service reviews, including operating and medical models
  • Identify improvement opportunities informed by data, observation, and staff engagement
  • Help prioritise rapid improvement projects aligned to key performance metrics
  • Establish workstreams, improvement projects, and delivery rhythms
  • Support project leads with planning, reporting, and stakeholder engagement
  • Enable teams to build confidence and ownership of improvement activity
  • Lead and support test‐and‐learn cycles from design through review
  • Embed improvement governance and KPI tracking
  • Facilitate learning and feedback, supporting the formalisation of improved ways of working

  • Significant experience delivering operational improvement within Acute Outpatient Clinic environments
  • A strong Acute healthcare background with credibility across clinical and managerial teams
