We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Rye Hill. HMP Rye Hill is a category B Prison located in Barby, Northamptonshire. The site has a recent expansion and has approx. 1122 patients with around 60% of these being over 50 years of age. Many of the patients have long term conditions, comorbidities and diabetes.
Within this role you will be working as part of an established team closely with another GP who also works as a regional medical lead. Hours are Monday to Friday - 08:30 - 16:30. This position is a bank role with an hourly salary of £85 per hour.

Main duties of the job
Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will:
- Deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients, further developing your knowledge in areas you wouldn't normally experience within a practice or even A&E environment.
- Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients' requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
- Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with, having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Requirements
- MBChB or MBBS
- Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
- Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
- Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
- RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
Job responsibilities
As a GP you will respond to medical problems presented by patients including diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate in line with guidelines and pathways. This includes:
- Prescribing for patients, regularly reviewing medications and monitoring repeat prescriptions.
- Providing medical leadership and expert advice regarding medical and primary care issues to the wider healthcare team; engaging with the Practice Plus Group wellbeing approach.
- Delivering effective patient care, developing high levels of communication with patients; identifying and utilising evidence-based best practice through benchmarking and clinical guidelines.
- Undertaking appropriate clinical audit to improve clinical outcomes.
- Inspiring and developing positive collaborative working relationships across the multidisciplinary team; working with the wider team to ensure effective clinical governance is incorporated into day-to-day practice.
- Promoting multidisciplinary discussions around complex case management, ensuring systems and processes are in place for managing results, letters, and tasks.
- Undertaking clinical risk assessments and implementing management strategies for risks.
- Sharing and disseminating acquired knowledge with all team members through development sessions and clinical governance meetings or clinical case reviews.
