About The Role
With the ever-increasing number of treatments and care we give to patients, our professional and detailed Administration department is in need of an additional Administrator to join and assist the Patient Administration team at our Emerson’s Green hospital, Bristol.
Are you a strong, detailed, organised and experienced Administrator who performs their role and plays their part in a team, with genuine interest, focus and tenacity? Are you a strong communicator with true customer focus qualities?
This is a part-time position of 21 hours per week with fixed office days of Monday and Friday 09:00am-5:00pm each week. The remaining days can be flexible.
What you’ll be doing
As the Patient Administrator, you’ll be supporting the clinical team and our patients by effectively occupying and accommodating availability for varied consultations, assessments, treatments and theatre sessions. You’ll be tasked with monitoring the capacity of booking and reporting any unfilled availability to the Patient Services Lead. It will be your responsibility to identify and register all new patients and manage their referrals; you will need to confidently answer questions and provide advice to patients regarding their appointments. In this Patient Administrator position, you’ll be playing a patient-focused and supportive role, keeping in contact with patients on waiting lists to offer earlier or newly available appointments, contacting them prior to their appointment to set their expectations. Detailed, up-to-date and confirmed booking lists will have to be prepared in good time and issued to the related departments, such as the outpatient clinic and theatres.

- Satisfactory Occupational Health clearance for the role specified
- Good attendance record
- Satisfactory relevant CRB clearance
- Good general education, GCSE/O’level standard including English or equivalent NVQ in Business Administration would be advantageous.
- Skills and Experience
- Substantial reception experience in Healthcare or service sector
- Experienced team worker
- Experience of dealing with the public in person and by phone
- Excellent Telephone technique
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deal with difficult situations in a calm manner
- Good keyboard/computer skills
- Good skills using Patient Administration System (PAS) or equivalent systems
- Conversant with Microsoft Office packages
- Numerate and literate
- Good spoken and written English
- Ability to work flexibly within the needs of the service
- Evidence of ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to plan and prioritise own workload when under pressure
- Able to use initiative, and plan workload, ability to work flexibly
- Relevant administrative experience - Choose and Book experience and PBX/Switchboard experience would be advantageous.
