About The Role
UNLOCK YOUR BEST WORK LIFE
+ MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR EVERY PATIENT
Are you an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for pre-assessment and patient-centred care? We are looking for a Bank Outpatient Nurse to join our Outpatients team.
This is an excellent opportunity to work flexibly within a busy and supportive outpatient environment, carrying out comprehensive pre-operative assessments and helping patients prepare safely for surgery. You'll use your clinical expertise to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care throughout their surgical journey while benefiting from the flexibility that bank work can offer.
As our Bank Outpatient Nurse, you'll play a key role in assessing patients' fitness for surgery and supporting them through the pre-operative process.
Working closely with consultants, multidisciplinary teams and administrative colleagues, you'll undertake detailed clinical assessments, review investigation results and provide patients with expert advice to ensure they are fully prepared for their procedure. You'll also support service quality, clinical governance and the development of junior colleagues within the department.
This role is offered on a bank (0-hour) contract. There are no guaranteed hours, and shifts will be offered depending on business needs. You can accept or decline shifts based on your availability, making this a flexible option—but it may not be suitable if you are seeking consistent or full-time hours.
What you'll be doing
As our Bank Outpatient Nurse, you will be:
- Undertaking comprehensive pre-operative assessments for surgical patients.
- Interpreting ECGs, blood results and clinical findings to determine fitness for surgery.
- Identifying risks and escalating concerns to the appropriate clinical teams.
- Providing patients with advice regarding fasting, medication management, smoking cessation and surgery preparation.
- Supporting discharge planning and providing post-operative advice where appropriate.
- Referring patients with complex needs to relevant multidisciplinary teams.
- Supervising and supporting junior nursing staff and healthcare assistants.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and electronic documentation.
- Participating in audits, clinical governance and service improvement initiatives.
- Supporting clinics across Practice Plus Group Hospital Ilford and satellite locations when required.
What we’ll look for in you
As a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration, you will also have:
- Minimum of 2 years' post-registration clinical experience.
- Excellent clinical assessment skills.
- ECG interpretation, auscultation and blood result interpretation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy and experience using electronic patient records.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Previous Outpatients or Pre-Assessment experience - desirable.
- ENB 219 qualification or equivalent - desirable.
What you can expect in return;
- A bank rate of £19.96 per hour
- Flexible shifts to suit your availability
- Opportunity to work within a high performing clinical team
- Supportive working environment focused on quality patient care
- The chance to make a real difference to patients and colleagues alike
Our employment offers are subject to receipt of satisfactory pre-employment checks. At Practice Plus Group, we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
