HMP Wormwood Scrubs is a busy B local remand male prison with a capacity for 1280 inmates. We are recruiting for an Family Engagement Coordinator to support our healthcare team. This is a new role within the prison and the ideal candidate will bridge the gap between the patients and families to bring a better understanding of healthcare within the prison service and support both patient and families.

Hours

Monday - Friday 0800 - 1600

Salary

This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £34,328 per annum.

What you'll be doing

  • As the Family Engagement Coordinator, you will act as the vital bridge between families, carers, and our patients in prison, ensuring that family perspectives are heard, valued, and incorporated into service delivery and development.
  • You will be responsible for improving and sustaining family engagement activities, strengthening relationships between healthcare, patients and their support networks, and enhancing the experience of families through meaningful involvement, communication, and co-production opportunities.
  • You will plan and deliver projects and programmes that reflect the needs and priorities of families and patients, working collaboratively with healthcare teams, prison staff, and external partners to promote family-centred care.
  • You will facilitate family forums, engagement events, and feedback mechanisms, ensuring that the voices of both patients and their families contribute to service improvement and innovation.
  • You will champion the importance of family involvement in rehabilitation, recovery, and wellbeing outcomes, ensuring barriers to engagement are identified and addressed wherever possible.

Qualifications Required

  • English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent
  • Previous experience as Social Worker / Case Worker would be ideal.
  • Face to face engagement
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A non-judgmental and compassionate approach
  • Good IT skills and IT literacy
  • Ability to work within a busy environment
