We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Dovegate. HMP Dovegate is a category B remand prison located in Staffordshire. The prison houses around 1200 patients with a variety of needs, including a number of patients with long term conditions and complex health needs.

Within this role you will be working on reception, support with urgent same day medication, duty doctor referrals, leavers medication and substance misuse withdrawal programmes. You will work closely with the nursing team and non‑medical prescribers to deliver high quality healthcare services.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8am-8pm, Saturday 1pm-5pm

Salary: This position is a bank role with an hourly salary of £81.25.

What you’ll be doing:

Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients, and therefore as a General Practitioner at Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Qualifications required:

  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
