We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Support Worker to join the team at HMP Garth, a high security Category B male prison located in Leyland. HMP Garth has a capacity of around 850 and houses men serving long term and indeterminate sentences. This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations - no 2 days are ever the same!

Hours

This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis. The rota is: Week 1 - Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday; Week 2 - Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Shifts are 07:30 - 19:45. We have an 8 week rota, and 2 of those weeks are night shifts, working the same as above, but 19:45 - 07:30.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings.
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients' care.
  • Support the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care.
  • Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, weight etc.
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required.
  • You will primarily be working within the primary care team, although may be required to carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams.

Qualifications

  • Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate.
  • Have experience within phlebotomy - this is highly desirable!
  • Have experience in a clinical care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting.
  • Have clinical experience - venepuncture, ECGs etc.
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach.
