We are seeking an experienced Gardener to maintain the grounds of a beautiful 12-acre private family estate in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Working as part of a small team and reporting to the House Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the estate's extensive grounds, which include formal and informal lawns, paddocks, woodland, flower beds, hedges, exotic trees, a small lake, and an outdoor pool area.

Day to Day Duties

  • Maintain formal and informal lawns, including mowing, feeding, aeration, scarification and weed control.
  • Cut, shape and care for hedges.
  • Maintain smaller trees and monitor larger trees, recommending specialist contractor work where required.
  • Weed, feed and maintain flower beds and planted areas.
  • Recommend new planting schemes and improvements to existing beds.
  • Carry out seasonal planting and prepare hanging baskets and pots.
  • Care for the estate lake, including algae and pond weed removal, monitoring water levels and topping up using the borehole.
  • Maintain the outdoor pool area, including surrounding lawns and hedges.
  • Maintain gravel driveways, keeping them tidy and weed-free.
  • Monitor and treat plants and trees for pests and diseases where appropriate.
  • Care for exotic trees, including palm, olive, fig and bonsai.
