Felicity Montagu announced as Ambassador for the Women Over 50 Film Festival. Best known for her roles in Alan Partridge, Bridget Jones's Diary, The Durrells and currently starring in Beyond Paradise (BBC One), Montagu will work with WOFFF to amplify the voices of older women in film and shine a spotlight on stories that are often overlooked in mainstream cinema.
Now in its eleventh year, WOFFF continues to challenge age and gender stereotypes by championing the work of women over 50 both in front of and behind the camera with its annual short film festival. Since its inception, WOFFF has received almost 3,000 short films that have been created by or about women over 50, and screened films by more than 500 international filmmakers.
As an ambassador, Montagu will lend her voice and support to further the festival's mission of increasing visibility for older women in film and celebrating their creativity, talent, and resilience. Montagu expressed her enthusiasm for the role. She said: "I am thrilled to join WOFFF as an ambassador. The festival's commitment to telling the stories of women over 50 is not only inspiring but crucial in today's industry. I look forward to supporting WOFFF in its mission to change perceptions, challenge norms, and ensure older women's voices are heard loudly and clearly. I see WOFFF as a vital function when women all over the world are losing their voices."
Nuala O'Sullivan, Director and Founder of WOFFF, said: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Felicity Montagu as an ambassador for the festival. Her extensive career and remarkable talent are a testament to the very ethos of WOFFF, that women over 50 have so much more to say, create, and contribute to the world of film. We are excited to have Felicity onboard as we continue to grow and evolve."
To mark her ambassadorship, Felicity Montagu will be involved in the upcoming 11th edition of the Women Over 50 Film Festival taking place online and in person throughout September and October. The festival will showcase a diverse line-up of films by and about women over 50 β filmmakers and scriptwriters are still being encouraged to submit their work for this year's programme.
