Job Description

Children’s Social Work, Youn Person’s Advisor, West Sussex Pay rate £27 per hour  Contract role – Youth Work / Youth Offending Pertemps are recruiting for an experienced Youn Person’s Advisor in the Chichester area. This is to work as a Youn Person’s Advisor. Due to the nature of the role, you will need access to your own transport. Details:
  • Working arrangements – 1 day a fortnight present in office and expectation of some travel around West Sussex  
  • Enhanced DBS required  

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide intensive, one-to-one support and engagement to a maximum of 5 young people (minimum 3) at any time.  
  • Offer flexible support, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of young people.  
  • Build trusted, consistent relationships with young people, working alongside them in the community and in key settings.  
  • Take a lead role in supporting young people to engage with the CANS assessment tool, ensuring their views and voices shape outcomes.  
  • Where appropriate, co-ordinate CANS assessments and liaise with professionals across education, health, youth justice, and social care.  
  • Carry out comprehensive risk assessments and ensure robust safeguarding practice in line with statutory guidance and child protection procedures.  
  • Work independently and proactively, whilst maintaining regular supervision and management oversight from the Programme Manager.  
  • Participate in reflective practice sessions with the Project Psychologist.  
  • Contribute to the development of innovative practice that seeks to reshape how support is offered to this group of young people.  
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records, reports, and documentation.  

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience working with young people in complex circumstances, such as:  
  • Senior Youth Work  
  • Youth Offending Services  
  • Health or Education roles  
  • Social Care roles  
  • Assistant Psychologist or equivalent experience  
  • Strong engagement and relationship-building skills with young people, particularly in co-production approaches.  
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate in community-based roles.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding, child protection procedures, and statutory frameworks relating to children and young people.  
  • Experience of completing and managing detailed risk assessments.  
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, in response to young people’s needs. Desirable  
  • Knowledge of, or training in, the CANS assessment tool (training will be provided).  
  • Experience of contributing to multi-agency planning and coordination.  
  • Experience in reflective practice approaches
