?? Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)?? Location: North West?? Pay Rate: £45 per hour?? Contract Type: Agency | Out of Hours Work RequiredAre you a skilled and compassionate AMHP-qualified Social Worker ready to make a real difference in emergency mental health care? We’re looking for an experienced and committed Approved Mental Health Professional to join a dynamic and fast-paced Mental Health Emergency Duty Team in the North West. You'll play a vital role in delivering emergency statutory interventions to adults experiencing acute mental health crises—especially outside normal working hours. This role is ideal for professionals who thrive under pressure, act with empathy, and bring a calm, confident presence to high-risk and sensitive situations.?? What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Coordinating Mental Health Act assessments and ensuring they follow least restrictive and participatory principles
  • Responding to emergency duty referrals outside normal hours, including weekends and bank holidays
  • Assessing and authorising hospital admissions, Community Treatment Orders, and Guardianship requests
  • Managing complex safeguarding issues and mental health crises in a person-centred and trauma-informed manner
  • Applying professional judgment to balance positive risk-taking and immediate safety needs
  • Supporting individuals with alternative care options and least restrictive pathways wherever possible
  • Leading statutory interventions, offering clear decision-making in high-pressure scenarios
  • Collaborating with mental health teams, crisis services, and medical professionals to gatekeep hospital admissions
? About You:
  • Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England
  • Hold AMHP status (essential)
  • Post-qualified experience in mental health and complex case management
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • Able to work flexibly including out-of-hours, weekends, and public holidays
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, safeguarding, and multi-agency collaboration
  • Committed to maintaining dignity, autonomy, and empowerment for every individual
  • Ideally also a trained Best Interests Assessor (BIA)

  • Lead urgent mental health assessments and emergency interventions
  • Carry out safeguarding investigations and mental capacity assessments
  • Identify least restrictive alternatives to admission and advocate for appropriate care pathways
  • Maintain accurate, high-quality documentation in line with local authority standards
  • Supervise and support new staff or students, and contribute to service development
  • Be a key part of the city's response team, ensuring quality, consistency, and professionalism in emergency care
