Our client is a well-established and highly regarded Scaffolding and Brickwork contractor delivering projects across London and the South East. Following continued growth and investment in the business, they are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of the company's safety function and help drive standards across all operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive H&S professional to join a successful contractor and play a pivotal role in promoting a positive safety culture while supporting operational teams across multiple sites.

The Role

Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring health, safety and environmental standards throughout the business. You will work closely with management, site teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, improve performance and promote best practice across all Scaffolding and Brickwork activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the business.
  • Provide practical guidance and support to managers, supervisors and operatives on all health and safety matters.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews across projects.
  • Identify risks and implement corrective actions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Monitor compliance with current legislation, industry standards and company procedures.
  • Review and improve health and safety policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, producing reports and recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage the incident reporting process and liaise with regulatory bodies where required.
  • Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work to ensure they meet company and legislative requirements.
  • Analyse safety performance data, including accident frequency rates and key performance indicators.
  • Deliver coaching, mentoring and support to operational teams to improve safety awareness and performance.
  • Maintain effective relationships with clients, principal contractors, local authorities, consultants and enforcement agencies.
  • Support employee inductions, training initiatives and ongoing competency development.
  • Ensure the Integrated Management System remains up to date and aligned with business requirements.
  • Represent the company at client meetings, audits and external health and safety forums.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • NEBOSH qualification.
  • Proven Health & Safety management experience within the construction sector.
  • Experience working within scaffolding, brickwork, specialist subcontracting or related construction disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing teams.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports, policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NASC Technical Guidance and scaffolding industry standards.
  • Current CITB Scaffolder Card (Basic or Advanced).
  • Membership of a recognised professional body such as IOSH or IIRSM.
  • Experience working across both scaffolding and brickwork operations.
