We are seeking an experienced M&E Engineer with a strong mechanical bias to join our facilities team delivering planned and reactive maintenance across a busy university campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and servicing a variety of building services plant and equipment, ensuring statutory compliance, operational reliability, and a safe environment for staff, students and visitors. This role requires a qualified mechanical engineer with extensive experience in water hygiene management, plumbing systems, HVAC plant, pumps, and pressurisation equipment. The position will involve both hands-on maintenance activities and supporting compliance requirements relating to water systems. Essential Qualifications NVQ Level 3 in a Mechanical Engineering discipline Full UK Driving Licence Demonstrable experience within a commercial building maintenance or facilities management environment Essential Skills & Experience Mechanical Building Services Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance of mechanical building services plant. Servicing, maintenance and fault finding of: Expansion vessels Pressurisation units Commercial pumps and pump sets Booster sets HVAC mechanical plant LTHW systems Pipework and associated distribution systems Experience undertaking mechanical repairs and replacements across commercial facilities. Knowledge of heating, ventilation and domestic water systems. Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs with minimal supervision. Experience working on mechanical plant within occupied environments. Water Hygiene / Legionella Control Strong understanding of ACOP L8 and HSG274 requirements. Experience carrying out water hygiene tasks and routine compliance activities. Competent Person (CP) or Water Competent Person experience highly desirable. Experience with: Temperature monitoring TMV inspections and servicing Flushing regimes Water sampling support Tank inspections Shower descaling and disinfection Monitoring of water systems to ensure Legionella compliance Understanding of legionella risk management and associated record keeping. Maintenance & Compliance Ability to undertake both planned and reactive maintenance activities. Experience completing maintenance documentation and compliance records. Understanding of safe systems of work, permit to work procedures and risk assessments. Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively. Experience responding to plant breakdowns and emergency call-outs. Desirable Experience Authorised Person (AP) or Competent Person (CP) status for Water Systems. Experience working within higher education, healthcare, public sector or large commercial estates. Knowledge of BMS-controlled mechanical systems. Experience supervising apprentices or junior engineers. Important Notes Mechanical qualification and mechanical maintenance experience are essential. Water hygiene / L8 experience is essential. Experience servicing expansion vessels and pumps is essential. F-Gas qualification is not required. No specialist electrical qualifications are required beyond the electrical awareness expected of a mechanically qualified engineer. Key Responsibilities Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical building services plant. Perform servicing and inspections of pumps, expansion vessels and associated mechanical systems. Carry out water hygiene compliance activities in line with ACOP L8 requirements. Respond to breakdowns and restore plant operation efficiently. Complete maintenance records and statutory compliance documentation. Support continuous improvement of service delivery across the university estate. Participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota where required
