We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician - Electrical to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative and reactive electrical maintenance to ensure plant, machinery, equipment and building services remain safe, reliable and operational. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, fault-finding and maintenance practices, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential equipment failures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical plant, machinery and building services.
  • Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and carry out effective fault-finding and repairs.
  • Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate test equipment and technical information.
  • Install, maintain, test and repair electrical systems, machinery and associated equipment.
  • Carry out inspections and routine checks to identify potential faults and safety issues.
  • Complete electrical testing, inspections and maintenance in accordance with relevant standards and company procedures.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment and machinery.
  • Work with mechanical and other maintenance personnel to resolve complex equipment faults.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, repairs and parts used.
  • Follow company health and safety procedures, risk assessments and permit-to-work systems.
  • Ensure electrical work complies with applicable legislation, regulations and industry standards.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and safety.
  • Participate in an on-call, shift or overtime rota where required.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Recognised electrical qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in an electrical maintenance environment.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Good understanding of industrial electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with motors, control panels, sensors, contactors, relays and control systems.
  • Competent use of electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Good understanding of electrical health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • A flexible, proactive and safety-conscious approach to work.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with PLCs, inverters/VSDs and automated machinery.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering, production or facilities environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience with planned maintenance systems/CMMS.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • Experience with three-phase electrical systems and industrial control equipment.

Working Conditions

The role may involve working in a production, manufacturing, engineering or facilities environment and may require working at height, in confined areas or around operational machinery. The successful candidate must be comfortable responding to breakdowns and working flexibly to minimise equipment downtime.
