A leading Wirral-based construction and maintenance company is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its team based at its Birkenhead office. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated estimator to play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive tenders for a variety of construction and maintenance projects while working alongside experienced project and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Tender Analysis & Preparation
- Review tender documentation to understand project scope, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Identify risks, discrepancies, and missing information, escalating where appropriate.
- Carry out site visits when required to assess project conditions and constraints.
- Cost Estimation
- Prepare accurate quantity take-offs from drawings using estimating software.
- Produce detailed cost estimates covering labour, materials, plant, and subcontractor costs.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Maintain and update estimating software with accurate project information.
- Assist in preparing compliant tender submissions within client deadlines.
- Support value engineering by identifying cost-effective alternatives.
- Liaise with contracts and project teams to ensure bids are practical, commercially viable, and deliverable.
- Post-Tender & Project Handover
- Support post-tender meetings and respond to client queries.
- Assist with project handover documentation for successful bids.
- Participate in post-project reviews, comparing estimated costs against actual project outcomes to improve future estimating accuracy.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with estimators, project managers, commercial teams, and the supply chain.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of material costs, market trends, and construction methods.
Essential Requirements
- Construction-related qualification (HNC, degree, or equivalent industry experience).
- Minimum of 2 years' estimating experience within the construction or maintenance sector.
- Experience producing quantity take-offs and preparing detailed cost estimates.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence.
