About the team
PPL’s Repertoire team are experts when it comes to music data. Through managing the PPL Repertoire Database, they provide services and analysis on data submitted by PPL Members and Licensees to ensure that requirements set out in the PPL Data Policy are met. Their work ensures that we can maximise revenue generation and pay-through. The Repertoire team also works to resolve key data gaps at source wherever possible, as well as promoting industry standards and working on international projects to improve music data quality.
What you’ll be doing:
You will be part of a highly motivated team processing complex datasets relating to music use around the world in order to collect and distribute over £80m of international collections revenue each year. You will be responsible for producing rightsholder and performer claims to send to other CMOs to tight deadlines. You will therefore manage, facilitate and report on the efficient receipt, validation, cleansing, transformation, matching and reporting of large and complex music industry datasets, through the use of various analytical tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the transformation of incoming music use datasets into standardised and workable formats; validate and, where appropriate, address the quality deficiencies of files and datasets.
- Manipulate large and complex music use data sets in efficient manners.
- Identify and support the implementation of robust solutions to resolve recurring problems and repeatable time-consuming otherwise labor-intensive tasks.
- Running utilities and tools in order to coordinate activities such as matching reported music usage to recordings on PPL’s Repertoire Database.
- Regular manipulation of data using advanced Excel skills (e.g. lookups, filtering).
- Running SSIS packages and from time to time creating or modifying SSIS packages to make the processing of statements or the running of claims.
- Use of basic SQL to write and run queries and reports.
- Overseeing the delivery of performer and rightsholder claims.
What you’ll need:
- Experience of working in a complex, high volume, data analysis and reporting environment.
- Experience in using the Microsoft BI stack or other BI software (e.g. Qlikview or Tableau).
- Competence in the Microsoft Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- A high level of computer literacy.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Attention to detail is important; a good eye for spotting anomalies and patterns in data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to communicate complex information in a concise and simplified manner.
- Some experience of SQL databases and analytics tools, ideally across a Microsoft SQL Server platform.
