About the team: The Legal & Business Affairs team plays a key role in delivering PPL’s purpose: to champion music rights, ensuring our members’ talent and investment is fairly rewarded. We work closely with teams across PPL to protect and monetise our members’ rights, while also supporting the wider business. It’s a fast-paced, high‑visibility role with real variety - ideal if you enjoy owning matters end-to-end and working with stakeholders throughout the organisation and in the wider music industry.

What you’ll be doing: Reporting to one of our senior lawyers, you will provide legal and business affairs support to PPL and our sister company, VPL. You’ll deliver clear, high-quality advice, build strong relationships with the business, and balance legal judgement with commercial awareness to support our members, licensees and stakeholders. You’ll get early responsibility with the backing of experienced colleagues - great for someone who wants to build their knowledge, sharpen judgement and develop their skillset in a high calibre in‑house team.

  • Advising on licensing queries, issues and disputes with TV and radio broadcasters, music suppliers (e.g. for jukeboxes, in-store music), and public performance licensees and representative bodies.
  • Drafting and negotiating licences, commercial agreements and other documentation across PPL’s operations (including licences with radio and TV broadcasters, IT services agreements, data sharing agreements, and agreements between PPL and other collective management organisations).
  • Advising on queries, issues and disputes concerning PPL and VPL recording rightsholder members and performers.
  • Carrying out company secretarial duties, including assisting with the preparation of paperwork for annual general meetings, filing special resolutions and accounts and taking minutes of formal meetings.
  • Supporting PPL and VPL’s compliance with their data protection obligations (including supporting the production of data impact assessments, handling data incidents, and providing data protection training).
  • Supporting with litigation and alternative dispute resolution matters.
  • Providing business affairs and legal support on other ad-hoc matters as they arise.

This isn’t an exhaustive list of the work you would be expected to undertake in the role and PPL reserves the right to vary the key accountabilities to suit its business requirements.

What you’ll need: You’ll be a recently qualified solicitor (in England and Wales) or a trainee who will be qualified within a period of no more than 2 months following interview. You’ll have the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner (often to those with no legal background) and possess strong contract drafting skills. You’ll have a genuine interest in the music industry and PPL’s work within it. You’ll be expected to gain a deep understanding of the organisation and how it fits into the wider music industry. You’ll enjoy working collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary teams and finding creative solutions.
