Job Summary: Due to the expansion of the current business, we are seeking to recruit an experienced Electrical High Voltage Test Supervisor. As a Test Supervisor, you will oversee all electrical and mechanical set-up and testing activities within the test departments, ensuring seamless daily operations in the workshop. This unique opportunity includes being part of the implementation of a new testing facility, where you will be directly involved in the set-up of the layout, control set-up, drive, cooling, lubrication, and operation. This is a multi-disciplined role, where you will lead and manage all testing activities based on project-by-project FAT’s. Testing will include high and low voltage motors/generators and other industrial machines/equipment. Other roles and responsibilities will include overseeing the testing of stators prior to final assembly and conducting high-speed and low speed rotor dynamic balancing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct both static and dynamic tests on a diverse range of rotating equipment, covering both electrical (from low voltage (LV) to high voltage (HV)) and mechanical aspects.
  • Maintain and manage comprehensive test records and reports for both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Uphold a commitment to quality, ensuring tasks are completed correctly, and delivered on time.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by effectively engaging with customers who witness tests, addressing their inquiries and concerns.
  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of equipment, tooling, and plant in your area, focusing on both electrical and mechanical components.
  • Operation of capital equipment and tools.
  • Ability to fault find and propose local repair works on service contracts.
  • Use and calibration of testing equipment.
  • Always adhere to Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Adhere to the required Industry Standard Quality Systems – ISO 9001.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean working area.
  • Conduct various tests in accordance with IEC/IEEE standards.

Qualifications & Education:

  • A Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical (Preferred) or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience with large rotating plant systems, both electrical and mechanical.

Experience:

  • Either time served or experienced in managing a test bed facility.
  • Strong fault-finding abilities in both electrical and mechanical contexts.
  • An understanding of different testing methods specifically for rotating equipment.
  • An understanding of different equipment including:
    • Induction motors
    • Synchronous Motors/Generators
    • Permanent Magnet Motors/Generators
    • Brushless Exciters
    • VFDs
    • Test equipment/instruments for above tests.
  • Both Mechanical and Electrical aptitude.
  • Experience of working in an engineering manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarisation with international test standards (IEC 60034, IEEE 115, etc.).

Skills:

  • Ability to manage a small team.
  • Manage the safety of all team members.
  • Maintain the calibration and safe use of electrical equipment.
  • Good hand-fitting skills/techniques.
  • Good understanding of electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Excellent Communication.
  • Good attention to details.
  • Ability to work both independently and in small groups.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual Handling/Lifting.
  • Labour intensive operations.
  • Working with High Voltage Supplies.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • UK or National Passport.
