As a Fire Officer, you and the Site Safety team will lead emergency response to site incidents and manage the scene of the incident as the Officer in Charge (OIC). The SST ensures that all equipment required for emergency response is kept up to date and maintained as per regulations and PPG requirements. The SST trains the onsite Emergency Responders and ensures they are equipped to attend an incident. You will report to the Site Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all EHS emergency response to site incidents and events to protect all personnel onsite, PPG assets from loss and provide protection of the environment.
  • Maintain emergency response standards of competence in firefighting, COMAH Emergency actions, Rescue and Environment Protection.
  • Plan, manage and carry out emergency response training exercises with Emergency Responders and PAPA team members to meet COMAH requirements.
  • Carry out initial investigation for injuries and incidents. If necessary, act as part of a broader investigation team.
  • Manage internal and external audits of the site emergency equipment, and procedures.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments.
  • Complete shutdown safety audits of all operational areas at weekends and plant shutdowns ensuring safety and security of the plant.
  • Issue and accept Permits to Work for Plant and Equipment.
  • Organise a range of EHS training packages.

Qualifications

  • Experienced firefighter or Emergency Responder.
  • Detailed knowledge of firefighting, rescue techniques, and environmental protection gained through external fire service experience or equivalent recognised training and experience.
  • Demonstrate and hold validated First Aid and basic life support skills to treat injured personnel.
  • IT skills, including the use of PC for reports, training presentations and maintenance of records.
  • Flexibility regarding working hours is required as there may be the need for out of hours working dependent on priorities.
  • Knowledge of the standards relating to hazardous area and installing equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
