We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist to join our Powys Physiotherapy service within the North locality (Welshpool base). You will take a lead role in the assessments and treatment of patients in the musculoskeletal service who may have a complex and/or chronic presentation.

To determine a clinical diagnosis and develop effective and appropriate treatment plans, maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner at all times. To act as a source of expertise on the management of musculoskeletal and long-term conditions and provide advisory service to patients, peers and wider MDT. To prioritise referrals on a daily basis. To provide clinical leadership, supervision and training to band 5 Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Technicians, Therapy Support Workers and Students. To occasionally deputise for Team Lead when required. To support the Team Lead with operational management. To educate and advise carers/relatives.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide specialist MSK Physiotherapy to outpatients both face to face and virtually (video & telephone) to a variety of patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal clinical needs.
  • Contribute to service development, support peers and on occasion lead on particular service development initiatives.
  • Provide supervision and teaching to Physiotherapy support workers, students and Band 5 Physiotherapists.

We are committed to the development of our MSK Physiotherapy staff and service. We support staff development through regular in-service training sessions as part of the Powys MSK forum, as well as clinical supervision sessions and appraisals. For the right candidate, we will offer full funding and study leave for relevant post graduate studies, such as MSK external courses, MSK related M-level modules or a full MSc course. This will be in line with your development plan and departmental training plan.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Physiotherapy, HCPC registration, Knowledge in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation, Evidence of postgraduate CPD relevant to speciality, Membership of CSP.
  • Experience: Broad working knowledge of Physiotherapy techniques across all aspects of treatment, Experience of using IT packages, Ability to keep legible, clear and concise notes, Experience working in MSK department, Evidence of CPD, Evidence of postgraduate study, Evidence of involvement with relevant Clinical Interest group(s), Previous Senior experience Band 5 rotational programme.
  • Aptitude and abilities: Experience of working with Junior staff/ assistants/ students and to develop other staff both formally and informally, Ability to work independently, Able to work collaboratively within the physiotherapy team and with the wider MDT, Excellent interpersonal skills, Committed to personal and team development, Able to cope with moderate physical exertion throughout the working day, Able to work flexibly, including possible 7 day working, Ability to speak Welsh, Evidence of Involvement in research/ audit, Active professional involvement e.g: H&S, Branch network.
  • Values: Demonstrate PTHB values, Team Player, Ability to work under pressure.
  • Other: Self-motivated/flexible working and reliable, Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
