If you are passionate about putting the voice of patients and the public at the heart of local NHS care, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Engagement Officer. This post is fixed term for 6 months due to maternity cover.

This will include planning and delivering a wide range of engagement activities including face-to-face and online surveys, focus groups, social media, public events, and much more.

Main duties of the job:

  • The Engagement Officer role will be responsible for supporting the Engagement Manager and the Assistant Director (Engagement and Communication) in the development and implementation of the Engagement Strategy and plan across the Health Board.
  • You will support the development of the interface between the Health Board, patients, and members of the public.
  • You will develop and facilitate communications between the Health Board, other agencies, and members of the public in the Health Board area.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification:

Qualification / Knowledge:

  • Degree level qualification in PR/Marketing/Communications/Engagement or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of Equal Opportunities.
  • Level 1 - Welsh Language ability (Can show linguistic courtesy by opening and closing a conversation; can give, and receive personal details; can say place names/first names or Welsh signs correctly).
  • Level 3 or higher Welsh Language ability (can converse partly in Welsh and describe people and locations).

Experience:

  • Experience of undertaking or being involved in consultation exercises and ability to produce and distribute public information.
  • Relevant experience as an Engagement/Communications Officer to involve support to major change programmes.
  • Experience of internal communications and social media design and implementation.
  • Experience of establishing systems and processes to ensure effective recording, monitoring and evaluation of engagement activities.
  • Experience of working in the NHS or public sector environment and of working with senior staff, clinical teams and partners including CHC and patient forums.

Aptitude and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the role of communications via digital channels in an organisation.
  • Excellent IT, web and social media and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to personal development.
  • Evidence of political awareness and sensitivity to the high profile of the Health Board.

Other:

  • Ability to travel to visit locations across the organisation, Powys wide and occasionally across Wales and to neighbouring providers in England.
