We are looking for a highly skilled Speech & Language Therapist to lead the AAC service in Powys Teaching Health Board. This is a permanent 1.0 whole‑time equivalent position.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the AAC service, providing expert advice and second opinions for adults and children with communication difficulties identified as potential AAC users.
- Deliver training in AAC to patients, families, speech & language therapy colleagues, and other health and social care professionals across settings including inpatient community hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools, and patients’ homes.
- Act as an expert consultative practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and skills within the AAC field across multiple settings within the children's, adult and ALD Speech and Language Therapy teams, providing highly specialist knowledge and support for fellow therapists and stakeholders.
- Provide an education service to clients, carers, and a range of service providers within the locality and to other professionals.
- Promote and evaluate the AAC service to ensure it supports patients across their lifespan and contributes to service development and initiatives at local and national levels.
- Work closely with the National Centre for Electronic and Assistive Technology to support powered AAC, environmental controls, and computer access.
- Travel across pan Powys as required to deliver services and training.
