Responsibilities

Responsibility for the coordination, delivery and evaluation of resuscitation training across Powys Teaching Health Board, ensuring staff achieve and maintain the required competencies relevant to their role and clinical environment.

Ensure compliance with Resuscitation Council UK guidance, NHS Wales policies and statutory/mandatory training requirements, including the maintenance of accurate training and competency records.

Provide specialist clinical advice and leadership in resuscitation practice, contributing to patient safety, quality improvement, incident review and audit activity.

Work collaboratively with clinical services, education teams and managers to promote best practice in resuscitation, support workforce development, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Organise, deliver and assess resuscitation and emergency care training for medical, nursing and Allied Health Professional staff in accordance with approved international, national and local standards.
  • Use agreed and developed training programmes to assess the clinical competence of individuals involved in the management of patients requiring resuscitation or emergency trauma care, providing feedback and development as appropriate.
  • Adapt, deliver and implement agreed resuscitation and emergency care training and assessment programmes for clinical staff, non‑clinical staffing line with identified training needs.
  • Contribute to the identification of training needs and forward planning of resuscitation education programmes within the county, in line with service priorities and guidance.

Additional duties

  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance data and evaluations in accordance with Powys Teaching Health Board standards and Service Level Agreement requirements.
  • Audit and evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of training and training programmes, contributing to service improvement through audit and feedback processes.
  • Audit service areas compliance with equipment checks of resuscitation equipment.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice and guidance on resuscitation and emergency care practice to staff, including senior clinicians, within own level of expertise and in accordance with local policies.

Welsh language preference

We would particularly welcome applications from Welsh speakers; however, if you do not speak any Welsh or wish to develop your skills, the health board will support you with training.

  • Ability to travel frequently around Powys to deliver training

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Registered healthcare professional with a recognised professional qualification (e.g. NMC, HCPC or equivalent)
  • Educated to degree level or relevant equivalent experience
  • Recognised teaching qualification (minimum Level 3 Award in education/PTTLS)
  • Evidence of relevant post‑registration clinical experience within an acute, community or emergency care setting
  • RC(UK) ALS or EPLS provider
  • Current knowledge of resuscitation and emergency care standards, including Resuscitation Council UK guidance
  • Understanding of clinical governance, audit and quality improvement processes within an NHS environment
  • Knowledge of adult and/or paediatric basic and advanced life support principles appropriate to role scope
  • Knowledge of statutory and mandatory training requirements within NHS Wales
  • ILS Instructor
  • First Aid at Work Trainer/Assessor
  • PGCE, or working towards qualification
  • Knowledge of digital learning platforms, training management systems or e‑learning delivery

Experience

  • Significant post‑registration clinical experience involving the management or support of acutely unwell or deteriorating patients
  • Delivering education, training or teaching to healthcare staff in a clinical setting
  • Assessing clinical competence and providing constructive feedback
  • Working autonomously within agreed professional and organisational frameworks
  • Multidisciplinary working and effective collaboration with a range of staff groups
  • Assessment and Audit skills
  • Highly developed communication skills, and able to communicate with staff at all levels
  • Highly developed presentational skills in both theory and practice
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Experience teaching resuscitation and emergency care
  • NLS/ALERT practice

  • Confidence in contributing specialist input to meetings, working groups or service discussions
  • Basic awareness of resource management and cost‑effective use of equipment and training materials
  • Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or an eagerness to learn

Salary

£40,559 to £48,841 a year per annum pro rata
