Apprentice Community Support Officer (Occupational Therapy)

Powys County Council has an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Community Support Officer to join our Occupational Therapy Team while studying towards a BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy Degree at Wrexham University.

This unique opportunity allows you to earn a salary while training to become a qualified Occupational Therapist, gaining valuable hands‑on experience alongside university study.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Apprentice Community Support Officer, you will work alongside Occupational Therapists and Community Support Officers supporting people across North Powys to:

  • Remain independent in their own homes
  • Access equipment and adaptations that improve daily living
  • Achieve their personal goals and maximise their wellbeing
  • Reduce barriers to participation in everyday activities

You will develop practical skills, professional knowledge and experience whilst studying towards your degree qualification.

Your Degree Programme

You will be enrolled on the part‑time BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy Degree at Wrexham University.

The programme includes:

  • Attendance at Wrexham University (3 days at the beginning of each term, then one day a week, usually Fridays during term time)
  • Practical learning alongside experienced Occupational Therapy professionals
  • Three professional placements lasting:
  • 8 weeks
  • 10 weeks
  • 12 weeks
  • Placements may be based in different services and locations; therefore, additional travel may be required.

Tuition fees for the degree will be fully funded by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW).

No previous Occupational Therapy experience is required. We are looking for people with the right values, attitude, and commitment to learning.

Recruitment Process

There is no need to apply separately through Wrexham University.

The recruitment process will consist of two stages:

Stage 1

Interview with Powys County Council

Stage 2

Interview with Wrexham University

Candidates must be successful at both stages to be offered a place on the apprenticeship programme.
