About the role
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will develop civil/highway engineering projects, from concept through to completion, acting as a Team Leader within our dedicated engineering group. Working closely with the Principal Engineer, your expertise will help ensure that all projects—whether highways, structures, or other critical infrastructure—are designed and delivered to the highest standards. Working within Powys County Council, you will drive innovative and sustainable solutions, ensuring timely and cost effective project delivery that meets regulatory and environmental requirements.
About you
You are a highly motivated, experienced civil or structural engineer with a proven track record in managing infrastructure projects. Chartered or working towards chartership, you possess in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, design standards, and construction best practices. You have a deep understanding of contract management, Health & Safety regulations, and environmental legislation. Your leadership qualities shine through as you mentor junior staff, make sound engineering decisions, and collaborate across multiple stakeholders. You take pride in your attention to detail, your methodical approach, and your ability to manage competing deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
What you will do
In this role, you will take ownership of engineering projects, overseeing feasibility studies, detailed design, and construction management. You will ensure the successful delivery of projects by coordinating design calculations, contract documentation, estimates, and reports. As a key project lead, you’ll manage internal teams and contractors, liaise with external agencies, and ensure that health, safety, and environmental standards are rigorously applied. You will also drive innovation in engineering practices and contribute to the Council’s goals for ecological sustainability and community benefit.
