  • The primary purpose of this post is to assist the Waste and Recycling service at Brecon Bulking facility where a sorting, baling and bulking process is undertaken.
  • Responsible for carrying out site operations which involve operating plant and machinery, including forklift trucks, wheeled loading shovels, sorting and baling equipment as well as the management of site traffic, visiting hauliers and contractors.
  • To undertake a range of skilled tasks and the operation of machinery, tools and equipment in relation to the operational functions of the Bulking Facilities.
  • Working as part of an integrated team at the Bulking Facility to ensure the processing of separated recyclable items is performed efficiently and safely and in accordance with the NRW permit and Health and Safety legislation and guidance.

About you

  • 1. To undertake operational tasks as directed to enable the bulking and baling of recyclables.
  • 2. Operate a range of plant and machinery items to a professional laid down standard.
  • 3. Required to hand sort contamination from recyclable materials prior to the material entering the baler and to ensure that all bins of contaminants are emptied regularly.
  • 4. Responsible for maintaining housekeeping duties to ensure high levels of cleanliness on site, ensuring that all walkways are always free from obstruction.
  • 5. Responsible for following a low-level maintenance programme and undertake low-level repairs to operational plant.
  • 6. Operate a range of hand powered tools such as drill, automatic grease gun, hand blower, pressure washer where required.

What you will do

  • 1. The postholder will be responsible for operating site plant and machinery, primarily forklift trucks, telehandlers and balers.
  • 2. Monitor equipment and plant performance, resolve minor problems, and report all malfunctions to the Waste and Recycling Supervisors especially any breakdowns and accidents/near misses.
  • 3. Operate and administer a computerised weighbridge system in accordance with the site permit.
  • 4. Maintain and update work records, on paper, computer and using handheld electronic devices (eg defect reporting, prestart checks, sampling, load monitoring etc).
  • 5. Carry out sampling duties as specified within the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 and subsequent amendments, to maintain compliance with the site's Environmental Permit requirements.
  • 6. Recognise and adhere to all relevant health and safety policies and procedures in a pro active manner to ensure a high standard of safe working practices are maintained.
