How to prepare for a job interview at Powertutors

Know Your SEND Stuff

Make sure you brush up on your knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Be ready to discuss specific strategies you've used in the past to support learners with complex profiles. This shows you're not just familiar with the terms but have practical experience.

Showcase Your Teaching Skills

Prepare to talk about your teaching methods for Maths, English, and the Core Curriculum. Think of examples where you've successfully engaged students, especially in a 1:1 setting. Highlight any play-based learning techniques you've used, particularly for younger learners, as this is key for the EYFS.

Be Ready for Scenario Questions

Expect questions that put you in hypothetical situations with SEND learners. Practice how you'd handle challenges like keeping a student motivated or adapting lessons to meet individual needs. This will demonstrate your problem-solving skills and adaptability.

Local Knowledge is Key

Since the role covers specific GU postcodes, show your familiarity with the area. Mention any local schools or community resources you know that could benefit your tutoring. This can help establish your commitment to the community and your understanding of the local educational landscape.
