This on-site position will be based at 5 Canada Square, Canary Wharf London. Reporting to the Manager, Archive, this role is responsible for managing the media ingest workflow for the Reuters Archive Team. This includes cataloguing, digitising, ingesting and storing video tapes from the Reuters Video Archive and its archive partners. As a Media Operator, you will digitise a range of tape formats in an organised and timely manner, ensuring all content is processed in accordance with Reuters Video Archive guidelines and quality control standards. You'll also identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to digitisation and ingestion, working closely with the Technical Operations team to resolve them promptly. In addition, the Media Operator will liaise with a variety of internal teams and external contractors, applying their knowledge of archive collections and equipment to support shared objectives and contribute to the successful delivery of archive projects.
As Media Operator at Reuters, you will:
- Organize, catalogue, and safely store the Reuters archive inventory.
- Coordinate, monitor, and QC tape ingestion against targets.
- Format and upload content to the Media Asset Management system.
- Operate and maintain specialist equipment to ensure optimal performance, including deep-cleaning kit and troubleshooting errors.
- Conduct archive research for the Sales & Licensing Team and support curation for the Marketing Team.
You're a fit for the role of Media Operator at Reuters if you have:
- Experience with magnetic video tapes and their players, particularly DVCPro, Beta SP, and U-matic, along with knowledge of digital media formats.
- Ability to identify audio-visual issues in migrated tapes that would require re-digitization.
- Experience with DAM or MAM systems, including metadata transcription and input.
- Confidence in using AI as part of your workflow.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work efficiently and multi-task.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail.
- Aptitude for learning new technical skills and motivation for continuous development.
- Ability to maintain high standards across high-volume workloads, with the ability to solve problems.
- Knowledge of, and interest in, news and archival news.
