Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s Broad Markets Fixed Income team is looking to add a portfolio analyst to support fixed income portfolio managers (focused on investment grade credit and multi-sector fixed income strategies) by ensuring portfolios are positioned in line with the views of the investment team and remain fully compliant with applicable investment guidelines. The position sits at the intersection of macro, sector/security-level research and portfolio construction, with a strong focus on translating investment views into coherent, risk‑efficient portfolio exposures. The role is based in London.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with fixed income portfolio managers to implement investment views across portfolios, ensuring alignment with agreed strategies and compliance with investment guidelines.
- Develop a deep understanding of macroeconomic views, sector specialist insights, and individual security analysis, and incorporate these perspectives into the portfolio construction process.
- Analyse portfolio risk positioning, including duration, curve, spread, sector, and issuer exposures, with a focus on maximising risk‑adjusted returns.
- Translate top‑down and bottom‑up investment views into portfolio exposures through the construction, monitoring, and adjustment of investment positions across a range of fixed income asset classes.
- Support the ongoing monitoring of portfolios to ensure consistency of risk positioning across Global and European‑focused strategies.
- Work collaboratively with portfolio managers, research, and trading teams to ensure efficient and timely execution of investment decisions across multiple portfolios.
- Work collaboratively with infrastructure functions such as operations and compliance to resolve any portfolio‑related issues.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of portfolio construction frameworks and risk management processes.
Requirements
- Experience in a similar role preferable.
- Knowledge of fixed income markets across major asset classes, including Investment Grade and High Yield Credit, Government bonds, Emerging Markets, Securitised products, and Derivatives.
- Ability to communicate complex investment ideas clearly and effectively to experienced investment professionals.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a disciplined and detail‑oriented approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong presentation and drafting capability.
- Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative team while managing multiple priorities.
- High level of proficiency with technology and investment‑related applications.
- Flexible and proactive approach to workload, with strong prioritisation skills.
- Proven academic and professional achievement.
- Progress toward or completion of a CFA a plus.
