Looking for a role at the heart of a dynamic newsroom covering the industry that underpins the global economy? The Insurer, part of Reuters News, is looking for a London‑based news correspondent to join our team of journalists covering the global specialty insurance industry. Our coverage is global, but your focus will be on the London market – a global hub for large complex risks. You will source exclusive news through the book of contacts you build in the role.

This will include coverage of the companies operating within the sector as well as the major risks insured. As factors such as climate change and geopolitical uncertainty shift the global risk landscape, you will play a pivotal role in helping bring these impacts to life for our readers.

You will ideally have some previous experience reporting on insurance or other financial‑services sectors. However, we welcome applicants with experience outside these sectors who are comfortable covering technical and complex news stories. Most importantly you will have a hunger for news stories that you have previously demonstrated within a competitive newsroom.

You will work across our flagship title – The Insurer – alongside our other brands, providing insight and intelligence for the global (re)insurance sector and the capital, infrastructure and resources that support it.

About the Role
  • Cover breaking news across the insurance and reinsurance markets, from company announcements and earnings to legal disputes and the insurance implications of major global events.
  • Develop a strong market‑facing contacts network, building relationships that generate exclusive leads and original stories for our readership.
  • Hunt and deliver exclusive news, working closely with colleagues to originate differentiated, high‑impact coverage.
  • Use quantitative data to uncover and explain industry trends, translating complex datasets into clear, insightful stories for a specialist audience.
  • Report from key industry events in the London market and internationally, producing timely news, analysis and colour.
  • Produce interviews and features that dig beneath the surface to identify underlying trends and provide deeper market insight.
  • Contribute to multi‑platform coverage, including writing, basic video reporting and on‑camera interviews to support digital storytelling.
About You
  • Experience covering financial services is preferred, with insurance or closely related sector knowledge an advantage.
  • Comfort reporting on technical and complex issues, with the ability to explain them clearly and accurately.
  • A strong hunger for news, with the drive to deliver fast, accurate and original journalism.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including confidence engaging with C‑suite executives and senior market figures.
  • A demonstrable instinct to dig deeper, going beyond surface‑level developments to uncover insight and trend‑driven analysis.
  • Data‑confident and curious, with an interest in using quantitative information to support and strengthen editorial storytelling.
  • Video‑journalism capability, including confidence conducting filmed interviews, presenting on camera, and working with basic video recording and editing tools.
  • Comfortable working across platforms, with a willingness to adapt stories for text, video and digital formats.
What’s in it For You?
  • Global career: As a global company, we can offer a truly international career and progression opportunities.
  • Learning & development: On‑the‑job learning and coaching. We also have a dedicated training team focused on the continuous development of our journalists.
  • Industry competitive benefits: We offer competitive salary packages and market‑leading benefits, including paid volunteering days.
  • Perks: Work alongside Pulitzer Prize‑winning journalists and a team who provide unmatched, award‑winning coverage of the world’s most important stories.
