The Finance Data team owns the Data Quality Governance framework for the Finance Division. The team promotes best practices for data management with a focus on data quality. The team has global coverage and interacts with members across all areas of the Firm, including Finance, Operations, Institutional Securities, Firm Risk, Wealth Management, Technology, and external stakeholders.
This is a Director level position within our Data Management Job Family which is responsible for supporting data management across Finance including data sourcing, execution of data quality controls, data issues management & data governance.
The Finance Data Sourcing and Lineage team is responsible for managing the authoritative sourcing of data into the Finance Data Warehouse (FDW) from data authorities and enabling the adoption of FDW data by Finance in line with Global Data Quality Policy and BCBS 239. The aim is to source and catalogue complete and accurate data from authoritative sources ensuring the data is 'fit for purpose'.
Given the heightened focus on adequate data quality governance, this is a growing team in the Glasgow office and presents a great opportunity to help shape the function going forward and gain exposure to a wide range of functions, products, and management across Morgan Stanley.
In the Finance division, we act as a partner to business units around the globe by providing management, review, analysis and advisory services of the Firm's financial and capital resources.
What you'll do in the role:
- Collaborate with a varied group of colleagues in Finance and across the Firm
- Responsible for and lead aspects of individual and team deliverables and projects, leveraging in-depth knowledge of Finance functional area, product and/or client segments
- Adhere to the Firm's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls; proactively identify ways to reduce risk in work
- Act as a culture carrier; embody and set an example of the Firm's values and hold yourself and others accountable to Firm standards
- Lead data sourcing and governance initiatives aligned to BCBS 239
- Define and validate authoritative data sources and data lineage
- Partner with Technology and Finance to deliver sourcing platforms
- Drive data quality governance and remediation strategies
- Engage senior stakeholders across Finance functions
- Oversee data issue root cause analysis
- Support development of governance artefacts including data dictionaries and controls
- Lead and mentor junior team members
- Contribute to the preparation of executive-level materials and updates
What you'll bring to the role:
- In-depth knowledge of Finance functional area, product and/or client segment and technical skills, as well as of industry and competitive environment
- Ability to operate independently with respect to most job responsibilities
- Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback and innovate processes
- Experience in data sourcing and governance in Financial Services
- Strong stakeholder management and senior engagement skills
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Proven project management experience
- Good understanding of financial products and data domains

- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Accounting / Finance background desirable
- Agile and tooling experience (e.g. Alteryx, PowerBI, SQL, RALLY) desirable
- At least 4 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
