We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician to join the Engineering Plant Support (EPS) team at Cummins Daventry, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom.

Working hours:

  • Early shift: 7am to 3pm
  • Late shift: 3pm to 11pm
  • One weekend/month - 7am to 3pm
  • Flexibility to work night shift may be required in the future

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Support Engine Test Operations by providing real-time technical assistance to test cell technicians and engineers, ensuring efficient execution of engine testing activities.
  • Verify and Validate Test Data by reviewing live and historical engine test results, confirming data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with approval requirements.
  • Approve Test Results by evaluating key engine performance parameters, including speed, torque, power output, fuel consumption, temperatures, and pressures, using approved diagnostic tools and software.
  • Troubleshoot Technical Issues by identifying data inconsistencies, abnormal engine behavior, and test anomalies, providing immediate guidance or escalating complex issues to specialist teams when necessary.
  • Coordinate Cross-Functional Support by working closely with test cell operators, engineers, CPE, maintenance, AME, and assembly teams to resolve issues, minimise test downtime, and support engine approvals.
  • Drive Data Quality Improvements by tracking and analyzing recurring data discrepancies, generating summary reports, supporting corrective actions, and contributing to continuous improvement of test processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Support Assembly and Product Quality by providing assembly line technical support, supplying torque specifications, conducting component fit checks, investigating structural issues, and raising deviations when required.
  • Promote Safe and Efficient Testing by ensuring test procedures are followed, identifying potential safety risks from abnormal engine behavior, recommending immediate test shutdowns when critical issues are detected, and maintaining flexibility to support operations across rotating shift patterns.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Demonstrated experience working in an engine test cell environment, with a strong understanding of internal combustion engines, HHP engine performance parameters, and engine troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex engine test data, manage multiple sources of information, and make timely, high-quality technical decisions.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to provide clear technical guidance, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and communicate confidently with technicians, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Results-driven and action-oriented mindset, capable of responding quickly to technical challenges, working under pressure, and consistently delivering accurate, timely outcomes.
  • Commitment to health and safety, demonstrating proactive behaviors by identifying risks, following safe working practices, and contributing to a culture of continuous safety improvement.
  • Ability to manage complexity and drive continuous improvement, using technical knowledge and data insights to resolve issues, improve test quality, and support efficient engine validation and approval processes.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
